About Karen

Karen Dustman is a California-based author and freelance journalist, with five nonfiction books and hundreds of magazine articles in print.

Karen's work has appeared in a wide range of publications, including Ladies' Home Journal, Family Circle, California Lawyer, Natural Health, Vegetarian Times and Westways magazines. Karen also has prepared corporate communications for nationally-recognized companies including Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream. She is a former council member for the American Society of Journalists & Authors, and an active member of the California and Nevada State Bars.

Karen Dustman has written on an extremely wide range of topics, with an emphasis on health topics. With 17 years' experience as a practicing lawyer, including six years as a deputy district attorney, Karen also enjoys writing about criminal justice topics.

Karen's books have attracted national attention. She has appeared as an author on top television and radio shows across the country, including Discovery Channel; the weekend edition of the Today Show; Good Day New York; Woman's Day T.V.; and Howie Mandel. For her magazine work, she has interviewed celebrities including Margot Kidder and Dr. Allen Schoen.

Karen's recent book, Silver Mountain City: Ghost of the Sierra, is the definitive work on this Comstock-era silver mining town.
